Reaching for that brass ring - Entering a biennale competition

Can I commit to a group competition? Yes. Though am I prepared for the ultimate rejection? My button of all buttons, that marrow of deep grief wrapped inside my child-self. Rejection! Visualize The Scream, by Edvard Munch. It's true I work more efficiently with a tangible goal and deadline, but, a competition that judges you on inspiration and execution? Time to reach for that brass ring and win. So I did.

A call to artists from the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art/Charman Prize was posted in January 2021. The theme for the 10th Biennale exhibition: 'Bermuda, Our Island, in a Changing World'. My first biannual submission was accepted today. Titled: 'Only the Lips Know'. The 4x3ft framed canvas offers the viewer a world void of preconceived identities of race and/or gender. Lips hold the key to:

Communication.

Love.

Acceptance.
